After its quarter-final setback, Slovakia put in a convincing performance in the match for fifth place, beating Greece 7:1.
Yesterday's quarter-finals ended in disappointing defeats for both Slovakia and Greece. Both teams now faced the match for fifth place. It was the Slovakians who started the game better and opened the scoring. Goalgetter Olejnik scored after three minutes. The Eastern Europeans subsequently proved to be the more efficient team. After the Greeks had covered the Slovakian goal with shots when they played in powerplay, Straka and Martinusik increased the score to 3:0 before the first buzzer.
The Slovaks were also wide awake after the break. Hryzak netted after just 40 seconds. The Eastern Europeans continued to dominate the game; the Greeks found themselves mainly in their defensive zone. The game also became rougher and was characterized by fierce tackles. During this phase, Teplicky played a brilliant cross pass through the entire Greek defensive zone to set Revaj free, who scored to make it 5:0. It was thanks to Ekonomatiks’ excellent reflexes that the Slovakian attacks did not result in additional goals. The Slovaks made up for this in the final period and extended their lead: Takac scored a brace to make it 7:0, with the Greeks scoring a deserved consolation goal through Taskas.
