With its 5:1 (1:0, 1:1, 3:0) victory against Great Britain, Team Lebanon confirmed its convincing performance in the round robin matches and qualified for the World Championship final in the B Pool.
Early on Friday morning, the fans assisted an interesting game with many goal scenes and two teams with two strong running skills. Both goalkeepers stood out with their saves. For the first goal to be scored, a powerplay for Team Lebanon was needed. After constant assault of the British goal, including a shot on the post, Kawkab scored the deserved opening goal for Lebanon on a pass from Andrew Aboumoussa and Haber. Shortly before the end of the period, the Lebanese, with one player less on the pitch, survived a boxplay thanks to the British team missing their chances.Â
Both teams played the second period with more intensity. As a result, both goals were scored in powerplay. First, Alfado scored the equalizer for the island team after a pass from Kyle Lewis. The Lebanese responded immediately and also took advantage of a powerplay. Burda gave Lebanon the lead again with a pass from Kawkab and Andrew Aboumoussa. Another British goal was taken off the scoreboard after video review.Â
If the British wanted to keep their chance of reaching the final, they had to play even more offensively in the third period. The will was there, but the Brits failed to make the most of their chances. Lebanon waited skillfully and then struck relentlessly. The game was good as decided in the 36th minute when Burda put his colors 3:1 ahead after a brilliant sequence of passes from Cheblé and Rocha. The Brits resigned themselves and then had to concede goals from Mathews and again from Cheblé.Â
