Finland defeated Haiti 6:3 in the match for 7th place in A-Pool. After a veritable false start, Haiti was able to react, but it was not enough to win.
The Finns put up a good fight for a long time in yesterday's quarter-final against Canada, but ultimately had to admit defeat to the favorite. Nevertheless, the Finns looked mentally fresh, agile and hungry for victory in the match for seventh place against Haiti. They combined undisturbed through the Haitian ranks. For the Haitians, on the other hand, the starting phase was to forget. After an initial pressure phase in the game, Pietsalo scored the opening goal for Finland after just over a minute. After the Haitians lost the ball at the blue line, Viitakoski escaped in boxplay and scored on the rebound. Mäenalainen made it 3-0 with a powerful slapshot after 6 minutes. The Haitians were off to a false start. Was the game already over?
After the time-out after just 6 minutes, Haiti found its feet and from then was more in defense and able to put itself in the spotlight in offense the longer the game went on. The game became less fluid, partly due to the penalties for both teams in regular intervals. The tangible reward for Haiti's improved performance came in the 20th minute, when Dieujuste scored the first goal with a fine individual effort.
The game now swung back and forth. With 10 minutes remaining, Aimé brought the tension back with a 3:2 goal after dribbling through the Finnish defense. Haiti believed they could turn the game around and captain Plaisir failed to score alone in front of Finnish goalkeeper Laine. The Finns now stepped up the pace again. They scored three goals within one and a half minutes: Wolin, Mäenalainen and finally Liedes scored. The game was now decided.
